Andrea Alvarez is both a popular and an avant-garde artist.

She was the first female percussionist and drummer - we can also say the only one so far- who participated deeply involved in the scenes of national rock music, performing a central role. She formed the first women rock band together with Maria Gabriela Epumer and Claudia Sinesi (Rouge) and the first great success in this genre: Viuda e Hijas de Roque Enroll.

As a professional musician, she participated in important events together with national and international renowned artists. Charly García, Divididos and Soda Stereo are but a few of the local names included in the list below. At an international level, she played with Celia Cruz, Tito Puente and Alex Acuña.

Due to her perfectionist spirit, she studied with several teachers in Argentina as well as in the United States, where she lived for three years. Lito Vitale, Horacio Gianello and Fernando Martinez in Argentina; Johny Almendra, Frank Malabe, Kenwood Dennard and Madeleine Yayodele Nelson in the States. She studied composition at Universidad de la Plata and vocals with Iris Guiñazú, Amy Grumwalt and Esteban Sielicki among others.

She is a teacher and shares her knowledge with hundreds of students (most of them women) who are inspired and encouraged by her talent and creativity. She also performs workshops for the products she sponsors: Latin Percussion, Paiste and Evans.

Maternity responsibilities kept her away from the scene for a couple of years, dedicating her time mainly to teaching. This period finished when she was invited to participate in Soda Stereo's last concert in River Plate Stadium, in 1997.

After conceiving and maturing a personal creation, Andrea Álvarez decides that 1999 is the year to go on stage again, with her own strong and vital project, bringing the feminine energy into the drums.
In this scene she feels she wants to embrace the whole creative universe from composition to vocals, and from performance to the direction of other four percussionist women, who she ha also trained.
So she creates PULSOMADRE, group in which she directs four other percussionists and a keyboard player. By means of this work she presents her own songs. She films an independent video for the song 40 minutos directed by Elian Galiese.

SOLO CAREER

In 2000 Andrea, teamed up with a young producer, Emilio Haro, starts giving shape to what will become her first album - a journey across the universe of sensibility, intuition and feminine sensuality, making use of rustic ethnic roots represented by the percussion instruments, to fuse them together with futuristic electronic sounds.
The album is edited by DBN and includes the participation of Gustavo Cerati, Erica García and Zeta Bosio among others. As well as composing all the material, Andrea was in charge of the direction, percussion arrangements and vocals. The producer is Emilio Haro, who also played the keyboards and composed the harmonic arrangements.

In 2003, and after having presented her fist album with Pablo Paz and Enrique Casal, she decides to record an EP with two songs and their respective videos (one of them is her version of Entre Caníbales, a Soda Stereo's song). The CD, also produced by Emilio Haro, is edited by Pop Art.

Also in 2003, Andrea finally shapes her musical way with a new trio: Mauro Quintero (guitar), Franco Fontanarrosa (bass) and she (drums, percussion and vocals). Together with this band, she is now composing her new album.

DORMIS?

Andrea finds a new sound as a result of this new formation, a sound that moves her to composition. All songs in Dormís? are born in this way, and this new album confirms her as soloist, composer and singer.

Emilio Haro again is part of the production team, but this time Mauro and Franco are also involved in the music arrangements, and Andrea herself is the general director of the whole project. The album is recorded with Hernán Agrasar as a technician, who together with Andrea is in charge of mixing the songs.

The album is mastered by Eduardo Bergallo at Mr.Master.

Dormís? is to be launched in 2006, edited by Pirca Records and distributed by Universal Music.

OTHER MUSICAL ACTIVITIES

Apart from her band, and being a teacher, in 2004 Andrea tackles electronic music, performing as percussionist with DJ Buey, DJ Ale Lacroix and DJ Mosca with their different sets. She continues collaborating as a professional musician at different musical projects such as Patricia Sosa's band, Nativo, Attaque 77, among others.
